The West African Examinations Council (WAEC) has officially released the results for the 2025 WAEC GCE 1st Series. This announcement marks a significant moment for candidates who participated in the exam earlier this year, as they can now access their performance and take the next steps in their academic or professional journey.
What Is the WAEC GCE 1st Series?
The WAEC General Certificate Examination (GCE) 1st Series is an external examination conducted for private candidates. Unlike the May/June SSCE meant for school candidates, the GCE allows individuals who are not enrolled in secondary schools to sit for exams and obtain their certificate. The 1st Series typically takes place at the beginning of the year.
The West African Examinations Council (WAEC) has released the results of the 2025 First Series of the West African Senior School Certificate Examination (WASSCE) for private candidates, also known as WAEC GCE. The announcement was made by Dr. Amos Angut, the Head of National Office (HNO) of WAEC Nigeria, in a statement issued by Mrs. Moyosola Adesina, the head of the public affairs department.
According to Dr. Angut, the examination was conducted across 143 centers nationwide from Wednesday, January 29, to Saturday, February 15, with a total of 9,054 candidates participating. Among them, 4,384 were male (48.42%), while 4,670 were female (51.58%).
Of the total candidates, 2,441 (26.96%) obtained credits or above in at least five subjects, including English Language and Mathematics, meeting the minimum requirements for tertiary education admissions.
Additionally, 8,651 candidates (95.55%) have had their results fully processed and released, while 403 candidates (4.45%) still have some subjects pending due to errors attributed to them.
The results of 56 candidates (0.62%) have been withheld due to alleged examination malpractice. These candidates have the opportunity to submit complaints and provide evidence of their innocence through WAEC’s dedicated portal at https://waecinternational.org/complaints.
Candidates can check their results online at www.waecdirect.org and apply for hard copies of their certificates through the WAEC Certificate Request Portal (e-Certman) at https://certrequest.waec.ng.
